Preliminary notice
The network of Katecho was compromised. Over the course of the intrusion, approximately XXXGB of internal data was copied out of the company's environment - technical documentation, client materials, personnel records - and its production systems, the virtualization layer included, were encrypted.
The intrusion required nothing exotic. It required the gaps the company left open - in network segmentation, in storage practices, in access control. For a business whose function is manufacturing other companies' products in trust, under NDA, those gaps are the story.
The question in front of the company's leadership is a plain one: whether it takes the measures this situation requires - protecting the data involved and correcting what failed - or does nothing.
