01. COMPANY AND BUSINESS CONTEXT

CHUGOKU BEND designs and manufactures metallic and nonmetallic expansion joints and steel dampers. Expansion joints accommodate thermal movement in piping and ducts, deformation, and vibration; dampers shut off flow or regulate its rate. The company offers design for specific customer conditions, manufacturing, inspection, replacement, and repair. Its head office is in Hiroshima; manufacturing sites are in Hiroshima and Koga, with a separate office in Tokyo.

The internal documents cover work on a product from the customer's inquiry through servicing: site conditions, selection of design and materials, calculations, drawings and their revisions, cost estimates, manufacturing, installation, and inspection. The main areas are metallic and fabric expansion joints, dampers, flue gas ducts, and air ducts for power stations and industrial facilities.

Additional materials concern the transfer of Sakanishi Jabara's manufacturing operations and the establishment of the Koga plant, financial results, procurement, personnel administration, site visit scheduling, and internal digital tools.

03. MAIN DATA AREAS AND SENSITIVITY

03.1. Engineering Knowledge and Project Files

The technical core includes BEND FLEX fabric layer configurations, standard designs, design standards, calculation forms, manufacturing notices, and tests. Customer project files supplement these with the geometry of specific assemblies, operating conditions, drawings, inspections, and repair documents. The content allows design decisions to be compared with product changes and servicing results.

Internal knowledge is also identified by explicit access restrictions: the section on F-series layer configurations is intended for internal use and must not be distributed outside the company. The working knowledge base also includes a confidential Hitachi-GE report on Shika. BEND's own standards, customer documents, and public supplier materials have different origins.

03.2. Commercial and Management Information

Cost estimates disclose material prices, labor allowances, markups, and cost breakdowns. Order registers contain revenue and losses on individual jobs; management materials contain company performance indicators, budgets, and allocations of shared expenses. The Sakanishi documents include a proposed business transfer price, valuation assumptions, and training terms. The commercial sensitivity of these materials lies in specific prices, costs, and negotiating terms.

03.3. Personal Data and Internal Tools

Personnel materials contain work time, business travel, leave, sickness records, individual evaluations, and a candidate file with contact and biographical details. Anonymous employee surveys are stored separately.

The source code of internal time tracking applications comprises four TypeScript scripts and two HTML applications. The HTML cost estimating system contains calculation logic, price reference tables, and registers. These programs reveal how internal processes operate; their purpose differs from the engineering development of the expansion joints themselves.

04. EMAIL AND LINKS BETWEEN DOCUMENTS

The two largest email archives, kiyosada@bend.[Link entfernt] and kiyosada@bend.[Link entfernt]-N_kiyosada5_10(1).pst, each occupy 41.58 GB. Each contains 109,498 ordinary email messages dated from September 12, 2007, to February 3, 2026, and 46 items of other types, including meeting invitations and Outlook documents. The correspondence in the two archives may overlap; the total number of unique messages across them has not been determined.

The 3dcad@bend.[Link entfernt] archive, totaling 3.35 GB, contains 5,386 ordinary email messages dated from September 12, 2007, to August 23, 2022, one nondelivery notification, and 731 contact items. Contact records may refer to people or organizations.

The fourth PST, dust\Outlook データ ファイル - [Link entfernt], occupies 0.26 MB.

The correspondence links technical reports to production assignments, drawings, estimates, and customer responses. For example, the Nippon Steel Oita thread includes a damage notification, a technical report, a new drawing, a manufacturing request, and discussion of further improvements. In the Koga materials, emails clarify which cost allocation version replaced the previous one. In the internal audit documents, attachments contain the results of corrective action verification and subsequent revisions of the quality manual.

The correspondence preserves different stages of an order: inquiry, estimate, drawing change, manufacturing, and completed work. The email date and attachment content distinguish versions even when the filename is identical.

Sources: four PST files in \kiyosada@bend.[Link entfernt]\ドキュメント\Outlook ファイル, with the small archive in the dust subfolder; sizes in Bend_File_Inventory_20261006.csv. Emails on Koga expenses dated May 20, 2025, internal audit results dated October 14, 2025, and Nippon Steel Oita correspondence from September-October 2025 are in kiyosada@bend.[Link entfernt].

05. ARCHIVES AND NESTED PROJECT MATERIALS

The source files include seven archive packages totaling 23.14 MB: two ZIP files and five DocuWorks XCM packages. Together with nested contents, they form 47 archive containers: seven outer containers and 40 inner containers. They hold 1,180 internal files: 957 at the first level and 223 at deeper levels. The maximum depth is three levels. Internal files are counted separately from the 4,050 source files.

The project ZIP for Unit 1 of Kashima Kita Power Station occupies 19.82 MB and contains 42 files. These include 13 PDFs, seven XDW files, three XLS files, one XLSX file, two XLSM files, two DWG files, one DXF file, and supporting materials. A single package brings together drawings, cost estimates, checking comments, design versions, and calculation tools. These documents concern a specific flue gas duct job and allow the design to be compared with the commercial terms.

The IJCAD package occupies 2.56 MB. Its first level contains 875 files totaling 6.99 MB, including 103 DWG, 690 PNG, 21 BMP, and four DLL files. Four internal CUIX packages contain another 154 files. The full IJCAD package contains 1,029 internal files. The CAD library includes interface settings and graphical resources.

Five XCM packages occupy approximately 0.76 MB and contain 109 internal files, including nested ZIP files. They relate to DocuWorks settings and extensions.

An email dated September 11, 2025, concerning Sakaide Power Station contains a separate ZIP attachment totaling 1.37 MB with one PDF and two JPG files. It concerns a specific technical case and is counted separately from the seven packages in the source folder.

06. INTERNAL ENGINEERING DOCUMENTATION CATALOG

The ファブリック_フォルダ整理台帳.xlsx workbook contains a catalog of the network location \\File\技術部\伸縮継手\ファブリック: 35,154 file records and 1,522 folders. The largest catalog categories are design standards, nuclear ventilation materials, and technical materials. The catalog describes the organization of engineering knowledge in a separate network folder; its 35,154 records are not additional files in the source collection of 4,050 files.

The catalog links BEND FLEX standards, materials on fabric layer configurations and rubber technologies, design calculations, instructions, and technical communications by area of work. This structure shows how the company organizes access to accumulated technical materials and separates general standards, nuclear ventilation documentation, and specialized developments.

07. BEND'S ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE BASE AND PROPRIETARY DEVELOPMENTS

BEND's own engineering documents connect standard cross sections, geometric constraints, calculation forms, and manufacturing solutions. They cover material selection, strength and movements, manufacturing, joining of components, installation, and servicing.

The technical department's internal manual bears the cover date “2026-09.” It contains 92 articles and 743 technical entries, including repeated communications. Its appendices contain 681 pages of technical text and scans; separate material and rubber technology collections contain 563 and 617 pages. These collections combine BEND's own documents, correspondence, supplier data sheets, and external studies.

The most substantive proprietary content comprises V, P, and P/V fabric expansion joint designs, BF and CF layer configuration variants, internal standards for flanges and shipping restraints, BEND's calculation methods for circular and rectangular bellows, FX manufacturing notices, responses on specific products, and test programs. External catalogs supplement this system with information on PTFE, glass and aramid fabrics, rubbers, thermal insulation, steels, and nickel alloys.

Section 1-2 of the standards collection, concerning F-series layer configurations, is explicitly designated for internal use and must not be distributed outside the company. A historical technical document catalog dated September 1, 2014, additionally classifies seven materials on bolts, tightening, contact pressure, and axial force as internal. Consultation is required for liner resonance and noise reduction calculations, while the external insulation manual was permitted to be provided to customers.

08. FABRIC EXPANSION JOINTS: LAYERS, DESIGNS, AND TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS

08.1. BF-201, BF-201T, and BF-301 Layer Configurations

The standard BF-201 consists of four successive layers: 1.6 mm outer glass fabric with weather-resistant treatment, 1.6 mm heat-resistant glass fabric, 0.3 mm sealing PTFE film, and 1.6 mm inner heat-resistant glass fabric. BF-201T adds a second 0.3 mm PTFE film; the films are separated by glass fabric. BF-301 has a larger glass fabric component: two adjacent 1.6 mm intermediate layers precede the PTFE film and inner glass fabric.

BF-201 and BF-201T differ in the number and placement of sealing films. The standard cross sections specify the layer configuration, but not the coating or adhesive formulation.

The P-type drawings show variants with an inner liner, with pin-mounted insulation, and without these components. P/V has more complex configurations: an inner liner, a dust seal, pins, clamping plates, anchors, and refractory layers. For example, one original variant contains 17 items, including an inner sleeve and a dust seal; another contains 16 items with two thermal insulation zones and a refractory layer.

BF-400 is shown with 0.3 mm PTFE film combined with 10 mm glass felt. The thermal insulation component becomes more complex in the higher-temperature catalog variants BF-500 and BF-600; BF-600 includes ceramic felt and ceramic fabric. These designs protect the sealing layer from direct exposure to the hot flow.
